so the sales numbers for this issue was bit dissapointing
10,087
I really really thought this would have been the highest selling one so far with all the positive talk about it
so right now Special missions Tokyo has been the top selling special missions issue so far, Why is that? is it the whole Japanese love thing americans have for Japan ? is it Jinx? why?
dont get me wrong I love it too and I live here in Japan but why?
anyways its a bit surpising with all the positive talk about this issue on the boards to see the sales this low

I'm not really surprised. It was my least favorite Special Missions and I thought it had the least appealing cover.

Didn't the Special Missions TPB come out around the same month? If I didn't already have all the earlier Special Missions issues, I know I would've just bought the TPB instead of the single Brazil issue.. wonder if that had anything to do with it?
Personally, I liked Tokyo the LEAST of all issues, guess I'm in the minority.

I think at $5.50 an issue, sales should be expected to be lower than AE. From a monetary standpoint that's about equal to selling close to 16000 issues at $3.50.

I just flipped through the Special Missions TPB and now realize that Brazil wasn't included in the collection, so it wouldn't cut into sales.
Duh, i r dumb!

Hah, when I read that I finally figured out what has been bugging me about the whole Shipwreck/Cg thing.
It just seems like a bizarre 'shipper' fantasy gone out of hand.
'shipper' is the sub-branch of fandom that invents romantic relationships between characters that have no romantic relationships, scours the source material for 'proof' and expects people to take them seriously.
You know...
like all those people who think Scarlet and Duke belong together.
HA!
Aw come on, I keed, I keed.
(hey, you gotta give me that one, I worked hard on the setup....*S*)
Seriously tho' what did they do, throw darts at the cover to the old battle files to decide to to shack with CG?
Anyhoo, the CG/Shippy *snicker* story was the one thing I liked about this ish. It was good, and I don't consider it a retcon. Nothing was changed, they just showed us off screen moments that put things in a new light. I am fine with that whenit is done right, and this was actually done right.
But Brazil? Guh. That was painful.
DEF? weeeeeeaaaaaaakk.
Headhunters? Dude, seriously. Weeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaak.
What info would the government man have that would be still good after so many years, good enough to revive a deal gone bad?
They get mad props for trying to explain the toy set colors.
If there was ever a place where mercenaries would dress up like that I bet it would be Brazil. Carnivale!
But when you take away the 'oooohhhh' factor that lit up the faces of the old school collectors/hard core Joe otaku, the story was thin and the S/CG story just wasnt enough to justify the price tag to many readers. Another one like this and we might not get another. Hope the Enemy one is good. It sounds fun.

What would be good is to see Shipwreck and Cover Girl eventually break up and see how they work with each other after that. Maybe over Shipwreck's mermaid girlfriend? haha just kidding!

I don't know, I figured they expect mainly the die-hard fans to buy those pricy Special Missions. Anyway, in those days, they (we) seemed to be the only ones buying AE as well. I assume that in their figures, they make a better profit with double-issues, saving some on production costs.
I guess you're right though: after reading your comments, I was thinking back and remembering the Ship/CG story way better than the main story. I still think it was ok though: light, funny, used elements from the past and a tribute to Mainframe. The plot was rather predictable though, but I don't expect much more from a one-shot.

See, you have to expect something from the one shot. If not, why bother dropping the cash. Re-reading your old comics is free!
If there is no punch, It's pretty hollow. The punch can be great action sequence(anarctic), well crafted story(tokyo), a reveal, or anything that makes you go, OK that was money well spent.
If they are just counting on the hard core buy anything with a red white and blue stripe crowd, then why bother with quality? Thats kinda what I felt with the main story. "Feh, if we just link it to the toys, people will buy it, lets go get a beer." If the joe animals back up from manhattan had accompanied this one, I would be offically be worried.
At this rate of quiality I can see maybe 2 more. If the next one isn't better, that will probabaly spell the end, with the last one being too little too late(remember Chuck Dixon?)

I finally got around to reading this one-shot. Not bad, but the lack of an inker still drives me nuts. Also, wasn't that Lift-ticket piloting the Tomahawk? Why would Slipstream (who as far as we know is only a fixed-wing pilot, IIRC) be wearing Lift Ticket's uniform and flying his chopper?
But, most annoying of all, Court Martial is not spelled "Court Marshall"
I really appreciated the asterisk and editor's note (though I already knew what CM stood for)--it was great, and something sorely missing from the DDP books. But then, I saw the spelling. Aaaargh.
Oh well. All in all, still much better product than DDP put out when they started.

That might depend on where your comic shop is serviced out of. It might be out of stock at one Diamond center but the main fulfillment center might have stock.
IIRC, 'out of stock' at diamond means they don't have any on hand but can expect them, sold out or out of print means its gone and wont get more till next print.
Its been a while tho so don;t quote me or anything!
