Some of these pieces were pre-edits for SDCC. Notice the symbols on Destro and SE were removed.

That is some sweet looking art. Love those character sketches of Scarlett and SE. Also really like that corner panel with roadblock (I refuse to call him heavy duty!) and duke looking out the side window. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

I may not be a fan of the new direction, but I will never turn down looking at some quality snake eyes art. This may even make it to "new avatar" status.

I could be bribed into buying the new issue with maybe a sketch snake eyes cover? Just make it cheaper than that Uncanny 500 sketch tuner cover I just picked up. =/

looks really fun. i really wish it followed continuity. but it does look high quality which i would expect from idw. but i still can't justify buying the title.

Thanks for posting some of this stuff phil, I put up a few more images in my art section.

just a side thought too, and I dont mean this in any judgemental or disrespectful way, Im just curious. I understand why Joe fans would be upset with a reboot/relaunch of the title from scratch. I think Chris has explained it well the reasons why it was in IDW's best interests to do it. So I wont go into that.

Though Im seriously suprised that for some of the hard core Joe fans, who take time out of their days to post on Joe forums and want to talk about it with friends would pass up the chance to read a GI Joe comic that is well done. And written by Larry Hama, no less.

I just find it suprising. It certainly doesnt help the books chances of being the success it can and hopefully will be. I finally got the chance to talk to Larry face to face. man what an awesome guy, he was very cool and talked about the old Marvel days with me. I never would have thought I'd get to have a conversation with him in a way that he treated me like a fellow creator and peer. He's a humble guy, a very cool guy to talk with, and I can tell you he has some outstanding plans for the direction for GI JOE.

I cant help but think, especially for Joe fans, that you would be missing out on some history in the making with a property we all love, and by the creator we all respect.

Just my $.02

I agree that some "hard headed" fans are going to miss out. All I can say to them is don't let the door hit you on the way out. I personally can't wait. This art looks great and should look 100 times better in color.

Couldn't have said it better, Robert. There's more than enough going for this book to at least give it a try, if not our full support. As a matter of fact, the more I discover about the new series, the less I miss the old ones.

Some people's opinion is that it's no longer OUR joe.

A lot of people have jumped from the wagon as they don't want to start from scratch again after following what is for some people the only comic they've kept buying from childhood (give or take the 7 years between Marvel and DDP.) and see a reboot as a jumping off point.

Other re-boots and other continuities have been supported in the past as a way of supporting the publisher that prints the original continuity.

The fact that IDW have managed to get Larry Hama is the MAIN thing that's kept me on board to check out the new series.

It's no offence to IDW, it's just what happens when you have a series that lasts this long.

The sight of the classic HISS tank makes me happy and more confident about the reboot.

Yeah I'm not clear either

Its the same characters we love Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Destro...yes the Roadblock/Heavy Duty thing is lame, but its essentialy the same GI Joe vs Cobra struggle we all love. Instead of a indecisive, feeble retcon like DDP gave us its an actual reboot, where the story starts from scratch.

Not to mention its Larry Hama, who knows these characters better than anyone else.

Bottom line. If your a true fan of GI Joe you will would give this IDW title a chance.

Your mad awesome dude!

.............

I have already stated my reasons several places here and on other boards and my thinking behind it so I wont bore anyone with typing it again . Everyone knows by now I wont be reading GI JOE anymore. But I wanted to say that it is in NO WAY a showing on how i feel about the people who are working on it

you guys have the best people working on it no doubt

Larry ( the God father of GI JOE )writting
you on pencils ( the very best person possible)
and
the guys at IDW are great especially Ryall who interacts with the fans on a regular basis and has gone out of his way to win me over personally.

its just not what I prefer to buy. Saying stuff like " NOT A TRUE FAN" or "Let the door hit you on the way out" is ignorant IMVHO and just proves that people are misinformed and clueless on the reasons why we arent reading it and supporting it.

Lets say I dont like the new version of lets say CAR X , and so I dont buy it and I keep my old car or finally change car types/companies after years of buying the same car. Its the same here Its a choice of preference were not saying IDW sucks the creative team on the books suck what were saying is its definately NOT what we/I want. The company can listen or they can decide were in the minority and dont care. Sales in the end will determine it.

I cant speak for anyone else but the continuity, the history is what has kept me around all these years if it wasnt for that I wouldnt be here. Going back to the beginning is super boring to me and treading water that has already been done. Why start all over to basically lead up again eventually to the same place, The bigger story ALWAYS has the bigger history, Sure, ya , some things sucked in the Marvel and DDP continuity, but I wouldnt change a thing still. Ignore some of it ya maybe or even retcon it LOL but dont throw it all out.

and again it could have all be fine if we got a classic continuity book too to go along side it 6 months to a year after IDW stated thier book ( and Ryall has really made it clear on the IDW boards that the classic continuity is DEAD and they WONT be doing a book on it ).

IN any case if they did I would have bought all the books from IDW in and out of continuity if I had a classic continuity book as well.

good luck though. we do love you and your no doubt the very best person to do these books with the very best writer for GI JOE with a very good comic book company

Now, Jamar, I think that's a bit unfair.
It's not a matter of ignorance, but of cognitive dissonance.
I can understand your explanation, and follow your logic, and go 'OK, that sounds reasonable.'
I understand how you feel, I just don;t understand WHY you would fel that way.

I know your a smart reasonable guy and a passionate fan of Joe. You hold the new books creators in high esteem.
I just can't wrap my head around how you got from A to C.
You're not Wrong, most of us just can't figure out WHY.

Now, I'm not asking you to try to explain it- it might be difficult over a message board.

I just wanted to clear what I see to be a point of friction so that nobody gets sore.

Destro sure looks odd with that huge cobra symbol on his chest. Might this be a sign he will be more loyal to Cobra Commander rather then some one from MARS working in a partnership that is at odds from time to time (which is usually what there role seems to be). I'm probably reading too much into it.
