Mordecai Kane

The file on Kane from Spooks #0 is pretty interesting. It mentions him being in prision (it does not mention why) and that he is described as someone with no fear, ambition, or conscience. Now that makes him ideally suited for Spooks Omega, but I wonder about the fact that he is the leader and has no conscience. How loyal is he to theteammates he leads in battle? How much can he be trusted? He does seem like someone who enjoys his job, but I wonder if his questionable past/morals will play a large role in upcoming issues.

Those are some good questions. I think some of the answers would depend on how long Omega Team has actually been around. I think it would be interesting that Kane didn't want to be the leader initially or...he wasn't the original leader.

As far as him having no morals, in the SPOOKS line of work I think that is an asset because Kane probably sees things in black and white. Either you are a monster or you are not. If you are...too bad for you....

If you get a chance read the back up story in the SPOOKS TPB and see what having doubts can be a bad thing in the SPOOKS game.

See - maybe this is a misunderstanding by myself, but if you see things in black & white - you probably still have a conscience (unless white is narrowly defined as whatever is good for you at the moment). I am probably taking the no conscience thing too seriously, and I see how it would be useful in that line of work, but I am not sure that it would inspire much loyalty and could create a situation with lots backstabbing. There is a plus side but also a minus side. I wonder if they will put an emphasis on the minus as well.

Well, I am not planning on picking up the TPB, I don't want to spend $20 on a backup story. Maybe I can find it in a Barnes & Noble and read it. Except I rarely go to Barnes & Noble.

I understand the "no fear, ambition or conscience" line to mean that he's the kind of guy for whom completing the mission takes first priority always. If Kane sees no other way to get the job done bit to sacrifice his own men, himself, or even innocent civilians, he'll go for it in a heartbeat.
